Paul and his sidekick Jim have been quite dormant over the holiday season. It’s a new year, the MG is garaged for the winter, and we are out sampling the culinary delights of the Comox Valley.

Jim and I ate many times at the Tee Box at the Comox Golf Course (which we reviewed in June 2015). Just before Christmas our favourite chef Adrian moved to Fluid Bar & Grill in Courtenay and we wondered who his replacement would be. On the first Tuesday in February we decided to stop and have lunch at the new Comox Golf Bar & Grill (Note: you can view the menu for the restaurant on the Comox Golf Course website).

We were given a friendly greeting by the new chef, Tossawan Friesen, who is originally from Thailand. The menu has all the traditional Canadian breakfast and lunch offerings with some interesting selections of Thai dishes. We ordered our beverages and Jim read my February 2nd “climate change” article in the Record which describes the increase in global temperature over the last three years.

We checked out the menu and opted for the Thai cuisine. I had a half order of Pad Thai with chicken and Jim had a large bowl of rice-noodle soup with beef ($8.95). The substantial pad Thai half order ($7.95) was served piping hot, mild, but spices could be added. Jim said his noodles were crisp, the flavour subtle and the portion large.

This is a wonderful new culinary addition to the Town of Comox and we look forward to having breakfast and lunches on the patio this summer. The Blind Taste Tester ranks the Comox Golf Bar & Grill 4.3 out of five.
